This CD, released in May 2009, is especially important to me as I met lutenist Toyohiko Satoh and his daughter Miki for the first time then. Toyohiko has since then become a good friend and teacher to me, knowing and understanding so much about music, philosophy, tea ceremony and the intricacies of life. We recorded this CD in Colnrade, northern Germany, during night hours as it was a rural area and the time of noisy German Kartoffelernte (potatoe harvest). We stayed at the beautiful home of lutenist Rainer Waldeck who made excellent food and offered exquisite red wines, and we talked all the night through about lutes, the universe and everything. Cover and booklet photos were taken by Leif Marcus again and I still feel they are maybe the best portraits of Toyohiko that I’ve seen so far. (JN) http://www.carpediemrecords.de/en/ayumi
